1000 HCCB Volunteers Participated In International Coastal Cleanup Day Drive

HCCB volunteers collected around 1500 kgs of non-biodegradable waste and delivered it to the Chennai Municipal Corporation for recycling on the International Coastal Cleanup Day celebrated on 21 September 2019. Apart from HCCB employees, over 1000 volunteers from the different institutions such as Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF), and US Consulate General, Chennai participated in the coastal cleanup drive. The day long campaign started at 5:30 am from Elliot’s Beach, going through Besant Nagar and reaching up to the Ashtalakshmi Temple Beach. S. Paramesh, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), M. Chandrasekar Associate Vice-President, South Cluster PAC and Moulik Berkana, Culture Affairs Officer of U.S Consulate General were among other who took part in the drive.

With this year’s theme of ‘Strive for trash-free seas and coasts', the clean-up drive helped reduce the pollution for maritime life.
