Everything You Need to Know About Bottled Water

A peek into the world of hydration on the go, its origins and HCCB’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety

Water is something we all consume every day, often without much thought. It's essential, after all, for life, health, and well-being. But have you ever paused to consider where this water comes from, or how it's made safe and accessible for you, especially when you're on the go or in situations where clean water might not be readily available?

At HCCB, we take the journey of water seriously, ensuring that every bottle of Kinley, Bonaqua, Schweppes or Aquarius you pick up is a promise of quality, safety, and trust. Let's explore the simple yet profound journey of bottled water from its source to your sip.

Where does bottled water come from

When you buy water from a store, it's usually one of these three types of bottled water:

1) Spring water

This type of bottled water is sourced from natural underground formations where water flows to the earth's surface on its own. Spring water is prized for its natural purity and the minimal processing it requires, maintaining a refreshing taste that reflects its origin.

2) Mineral Water

Emerging from a well or spring, mineral water travels through underground resources, acquiring minerals and trace elements along the way. These naturally occurring minerals are not added by humans and are what set mineral water apart, offering potential health benefits along with hydration.

3) Purified water

Regardless of its original source, purified water undergoes a comprehensive treatment process to remove chemicals, contaminants, and microbes. Techniques like reverse osmosis, distillation, or deionization are employed to ensure that the water meets strict purity standards, making it a versatile and safe choice for everyday consumption.

Bottled water is convenient and reliable when on the go

One of the biggest benefits of bottled water is its convenience. You could be out for a day of adventure and mid-way through the day you realise you’ve left your bottle of water behind.. In this scenario, your best bet to stay hydrated is to grab bottled water from the nearest store. Bottled water is safe, portable, and a dependable source of hydration that can easily tackle thirst and dehydration especially when you are in need.

How is bottled water safe?

Safety is a prerequisite and expected in everything we purchase. But it is also something of utmost priority. Something that we at HCCB take into account very seriously. This seriousness towards safety at HCCB translates into a steadfast commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety for bottled water amongst all other beverages in our product portfolio.

Since the launch of Kinley, in the year 2000, we've maintained an unwavering focus on the purity and safety of the bottled water we manufacture. From the source of water to the bottle on the retail shelves, we ensure that the highest levels of quality are maintained throughout.

Adherence to industry benchmarks and standards is a non-negotiable part of our process. Going beyond the use of cutting-edge technology, strict abidance to international ISO standards and the global benchmarks set by the Coca-Cola Company ensure our bottled water meets the required expectations for safety and quality.

The 7-Step purification process of bottled water HCCB

At HCCB, we’ve built a comprehensive 7-step water purification process that ensures every bottle of water we produce is of the highest safety and quality before it reaches you. Here's a breakdown of our meticulous approach:

 1) Chlorination

We start the process by using approved disinfectants to eliminate microorganisms, ensuring safe, bacteria-free water for the subsequent steps.

2) Chemical coagulation/RO stage 1

This stage is devoted to managing suspended particles. Through the actions of coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation, these particles conjoin to form a larger 'floc,' which then settles, allowing the clear water to progress to the next stage.

3) Activated carbon purification

Utilising the power of absorption, this step eliminates residual chlorine and any lingering unpleasant tastes and odours. Pesticide traces too are eliminated, ensuring clean, refreshing water.

4) Reverse osmosis

The clear water is now passed through RO membranes, facilitating the removal of contaminants on a molecular level. This powerful filtration method ensures every possible impurity is comprehensively addressed.

5) Mineral injection

Post the gruelling purification, it’s time to enrich the water. We add essential minerals in their purest form that not only enhance the nutritional quality but also boost the water's taste.

6) 0.2 Micron filtration:

A stringent 0.2 Micron Filtration method is employed to rule out any particulates and microcontamination. This certified procedure assures the removal of physical microcontaminants, giving us water that's as pure as it can get.

7) Ozonation & filling

The final step before the water meets its bottle involves ozonation. Ozone serves as a powerful oxidising agent, and the process includes the use of safe filling disinfectants, effectively eliminating any residual micro-contaminants and ensuring a pleasing taste and odour.

Our commitment to excellence and the environment

Our journey to delivering the best doesn't just stop at the bottle. We're working hard to make our process better for everyone—including our planet.

Through regular audits and feedback mechanisms, we keep a vigilant eye on our operations, identifying areas where we can reduce water usage, cut down on energy consumption, and minimise waste. Our teams are constantly researching and adopting innovative solutions that can further reduce our environmental footprint, from advanced water purification technologies to more sustainable packaging materials.

By doing so, we aim not just to meet the current standards of sustainability but to set new benchmarks for the industry. It's a promise to our consumers, our communities, and our planet that we will never stop striving for better, more sustainable ways to bring them the pure, high-quality water they trust us to provide.

Bringing it all together

Drinking bottled water is a simple way to stay hydrated anywhere and at any time. But the bottle carries more than just water. It carries a message of trust, quality, and a relentless dedication to health and safety. When it comes to safety, knowing the facts about bottled water helps consumers make informed decisions about their hydration choices. When you choose a bottle of Kinley, Bonaqua, Aquarius or Schweppes, you're not just choosing H2O, you're choosing purity, protection, and peace of mind.
